Dr. Katherine S. Ryan-Bloomer is an associate professor of
occupational therapy at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO, USA. She
obtained her BA (psychology) in 2001 and her MOT in 2003 from Rockhurst
University, as well as her Ph.D. in occupational therapy from Texas Woman's
University in Denton, Texas, in 2011. She worked as an occupational therapist
at a pediatric rehabilitation hospital in Dallas, TX on the inpatient,
outpatient and feeding teams and worked in various pediatric outpatient clinics
in Kansas City. She has been on the RU faculty since 2009 and teaches
research/scholarship courses, childhood occupational performance courses,
pediatrics in health systems and clinic lecture and lab courses. Her research
and practice area interests include pediatrics in health systems, Pediatric
Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (P-CIMT), play and playfulness, sensory
processing, Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLS/ higher level life
skills) for adolescents with disabilities, inter-professional collaboration,
and teaching and learning. She maintains a clinical practice as a PRN
occupational therapist at Ability KC, runs the 2-3-year-old CIMT summer
program, and collaboratively researches the efficacy of their pediatric CIMT
programs and Transitions IADL program. She is a member of AOTA and the Kansas
City Pediatric Alliance. Scholarly works include journal publication, book
chapters, national presentations and grant obtainment.
