Laxmi Ravikumar Pillai earned her BS and MS in Food Science from Mahatma Gandhi University (2015, 2020) and an MS in Food Systems and Management from Cranfield University (2024). She was a Junior Executive in Quality Assurance at Devi Sea Foods Limited, India, in 2021 and was promoted to Quality Assurance Officer in 2022. She was the public vote winner of the Sustainable Food Challenge 2023 finals organized by the GreenSCENT Project in partnership with Agorize funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union among 668 participants and 241 teams for proposing "teff" as a highly nutritious gluten-free cereal crop as a solution for food and nutrition insecurity linked to gluten-related disorders. Her research topics at Cranfield University included post-harvest storage, plant genetic factors, gene expression studies, plant growth regulators, and onion dormancy break.
