Dr. Sie Yon Lau, an Associate Professor, actively
engages in research within the Department of Chemical Engineering at Curtin
University Malaysia Campus. Currently serving as the Associate Dean of Research
and Development in the Faculty of Engineering and Science, he brings a wealth
of expertise to his role. Dr. Lau earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical
Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang in 2008.
Subsequently, he pursued postgraduate studies at USM in 2009, culminating in
the completion of his Ph.D. in 2013. Throughout his doctoral studies, Dr. Lau
played a pivotal role as a research engineer in the design of a pilot-scale
pharmaceutical production plant, a project funded by the Malaysian Technology
Development Corporation (MTDC). Notably, he also contributed to a Malaysia-Cuba
Technology Transfer initiative focusing on vaccine production facility design
at Finlay Institute, Cuba, in 2012. Dr. Lau’s expertise spans various fields of
sustainable and green technology, encompassing Microalgae technology in energy
and aquaculture, bioenzyme synthesis and application, chiral drugs separations,
biosensing, synthesis of nano-biocatalyst, and enzymatic membrane separation
technologies. His diverse research background reflects a commitment to
advancing innovative solutions in these critical areas. Dr. John Lau eagerly
anticipates collaboration opportunities with researchers from diverse
institutions and industries.
