Prof. Yonsu Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Healthcare Administration and Policy at the School of Public Health. His research interests include pediatric asthma, disparities in healthcare utilization, health informatics, and quality improvement. He has examined various social and environmental determinants of asthma disparities among minority children, applying health informatics and data science skills. He has collaborated with various disciplines, including epidemiology, medicine, pharmacy, data science, economics, and planning. His current research examines what contributes to disparities in healthcare utilization, focusing on cultural and educational characteristics among minority families and medication adherence. He teaches Health Economics, the U.S. Healthcare System, and Healthcare Finance. Previously, he taught at the University of California, Irvine, and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He received his doctoral degree from the University of California, Irvine, and has served as a researcher and analyst at government agencies such as LA Care, SCAG, and KDI.
Prof. Jay J Shen is an Associate Dean of the School of Public Health and Interim Director of the Center for Health Disparities Research. He is also a professor of healthcare administration and policy. He teaches healthcare systems and financing, health economics, organizational theory, and the management of health information systems. His research covers health services research and public health with focuses on clinical outcomes and quality of care, healthcare disparities, and the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare delivery in areas such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, palliative care, maternal health, and behavioral and mental health. He has served on the grant review study sections of AHRQ, NIH, DoD, and the National Science Foundation of New Zealand.
Dr. Leora Frimer is an assistant professor in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Internal Medicine. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from McGill University. Additionally, she received her medical degree from St. George’s University and her master’s degree in public health from McGill University. After completing her residency in internal medicine at the University of Central Florida/HCA Florida Healthcare GME Consortium, Frimer finished a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
Dr. Maryam Tabrizi joined UNLV School of Dental Medicine in July 2022. Before UNLV, she served as a faculty member in the Department of General Dentistry and Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston. She has earned many certifications, including a Geriatric Fellowship Certification in the Special Care Dentistry Association, Certification in Managing Health and Chronic Conditions in Older Adults in association with the American Society of Aging, and Certification in Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging Program for Geriatric Leadership. Before her academic professional career, she maintained a private dental practice for 20 years in Pennsylvania. Dr. Tabrizi earned her RDH, DMD, and MPH at Temple University, School of Dentistry in Philadelphia.
Prof. Dr. Ji Won Yoo is the Nevada Interprofessional Healthy Aging Network Program Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. He serves as a primary care doctor and provides inpatient, long-term care, and ambulatory care services. He serves as the Program Director of the UNLV SOM Geriatrics Fellowship. In addition, his recent clinical research focuses on digital communication, healthcare, and social capital in the community dwellings of older adults with limited health literacy in Nevada in the era of COVID-19 pandemics. He received an MD from Korea University, Korea, completing graduate medical education at the University of Michigan (Clinical-Geriatric Medicine) and advanced post-doctoral training at the Geriatrics Research Education Clinical Center of Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System (Health Service Research and Gerontology Education).
