Dhawal Shah is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at Nazarbayev University (NU). He received his Ph.D. in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering from the Singapore-MIT Alliance at the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining NU, he served as a faculty member at Middle East
Technical University and at Sultan Qaboos University. His group is involved in various projects on pollution monitoring and developing mitigation technologies. His expertise is in molecular dynamics simulations of novel solvents and biomaterials and the process modeling of energy technologies.
Mehdi Amouei Torkmahalleh is an Assistant Professor in the Division
of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (EOHS) of the University of
Illinois in Chicago (UIC). He received his B.Sc. in chemical engineering from
the University of Tehran, Iran, in 2005 and his M.Sc. in biochemical
engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, Iran, in 2008. He
completed his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Clarkson University, USA, in
2013. After that, he joined the Middle East Technical University Northern
Cyprus Campus (METUNCC) as a visiting Assistant Professor in chemical
engineering for two years. In August 2015, he moved to Kazakhstan as an
Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at Nazarbayev University. He spent
about seven years in Kazakhstan, and then in 2022, he joined UIC. His primary
research interests are in assessing community exposure to ultrafine particles from
indoor, workplace, and anthropogenic sources and in examining the associations
between these exposures and neurodegenerative diseases.
