Robin Janssens received his M.Sc. in Applied Engineering Electronics-ICT at the University of Antwerp in 2020. Since 2022, he has been pursuing a Ph.D. degree in the domain of RF Wireless Sensing at the University of Antwerp in collaboration with the spin-off company CrowdScan. Since 2020, he has been involved in research projects within the domains of localization, navigation and wireless sensing with the IDLab research group.
Prof. Dr. Erik Mannens is the Director at imec UAntwerp IDLab and a Professor at UAntwerp (Sustainable AI) and at Ghent University (Semantic Intelligence). Since 2005, he has successfully managed +160 “interdisciplinary” projects (amounting to EUR 30M of Funding for his team) and teams of 50 to 125
researchers. He received his PhD degree in Computer Science Engineering (2011) at UGent, his Master’s degree in Computer Science (1995) at K.U. Leuven University, and his Master’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering (1992) at KAHO Ghent. Being 50+, he now tends to only take on new projects that will have a positive and lasting impact on Society and “Spaceship Earth” as a whole! #SustainableDevelopmentGoals ... As such, he took on the Operational Lead of SOLID Lab Flanders for half a year in 2022, and he is now heading imec UAntwerp IDLab, where they are working toward Sustainable AI. As such, he now heads a Data Science team of +125 Wireless Communication and AI Experts that research all aspects of the Sustainability of AI. Since 2008, Erik has paved the Open Data path in Flanders. He stood at the cradle of the first Hackathons and is a founding member of the Open Knowledge Foundation (Belgian Chapter). Since then, he has frequently been invited as an Open Data evangelist, Smart City expert, and Ethical AI specialist at national and international events. He currently
actively participates in several W3C standardization groups.
Prof. Dr. Rafael Berkvens received his M.Sc. degree in Applied Engineering (Electronics-ICT) from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2012, and his Ph.D. in Applied Engineering in 2017, with a focus on uncertainty in indoor localization using electromagnetic fingerprints. Since 2024, he has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Antwerp. Prof. Berkvens has authored over 90 publications and has led several completed and ongoing national and international research projects. His expertise lies in localization and context awareness based on wireless communication.
Stijn Denis received his M.Sc. in Applied Engineering (Electronics-ICT) from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2015. He received his Ph.D. degree in Applied Engineering in 2020 with a focus on RF-based device-free localization. He is a co-founder of the spin-off company CrowdScan, where he is currently working as the Director of Research and Development. His research interests include large-scale crowd estimation, both active and passive RF-based localization, Internet of Things, and software-defined radio.
