Dr. Zaid Abassi is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, and has been a member of the Technion Faculty since 1996. He received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in 1984, 1987, and 1989, respectively. After a one-year postdoctoral period at the Faculty of Medicine (1989-1990), he moved to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at Maryland, USA (1990-1995) for postdoctoral research. Since his recruitment by Technion, he is the Director of Laboratory for Kidney and Hypertension Research at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Technion. He has received several awards for his research, including the Hershel Rich Technology Innovation Award (2006). He is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and the Israeli Society of Nephrology and Hypertension. His main interest is vascular biology and cardio-renal axis in health and disease. In addition, his research focuses on the pathogenesis of chronic and acute renal failure and novel therapeutic approaches to these disease states. He applies in his physiological research various methodologies both in vivo and in vitro, including clearance studies, hemodynamic measurements, and molecular techniques.
