Prof. Dr. Nicolai Jacob Wewer Albrechtsen earned his MD at the University of Copenhagen in 2014. Since 2011, he has been working on gastrointestinal hormones, in particular, glucagon biology. In recent years, Dr. Wewer Albrechtsen has initiated his own scientific group that investigates the actions of glucagon in dysmetabolic conditions, such as diabetes, obesity and NAFLD, with the use of state-of-the-art technologies, including mass-spectrometry. Since his BSc, he has been involved in medical research, including endocrinology, pathology and clinical biochemistry. His research focuses on the identification and characterization of gut hormones, as well other regulatory peptides. Nicolai has been teaching medical students since 2010, including mentoring several fellows. He has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, received several (>10) awards for young researchers, and completed a 1-year program at Harvard Medical School (GCSRT certified, elected member of the Harvard Alumni).
Prof. Dr. Daniel Weghuber is a renowned pediatrician with extensive clinical and academic experience in the field of pediatrics. He has served as an associate professor of Pediatrics at the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg, Austria, from 2006 to 2016 and as a professor of pediatrics from 2016 to date. Currently, Dr. Weghuber is the head of the Department of Pediatrics at the University Hospital Salzburg, Austria, which is a position he has held since 2021. Dr. Weghuber obtained his MD from the Medical University of Vienna in 2000, where he completed his residency training from 2003 to 2006. He specializes in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, and pediatric endocrinology, and his research interests lie in the management of obesity and associated comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, liver diseases and preclinical atherosclerosis. He is also interested in interdisciplinary diagnostics, mitochondrial genetics, and the lifestyle and pharmacological treatment of obesity. Furthermore, he is involved in the interdisciplinary bariatric surgery of children and adolescents with obesity, and he is committed to educating healthcare professionals on the management of obesity at the national and international levels. He is a past president of the European Childhood Obesity Group and has published over 220 articles in various peer-reviewed journals.
