Author Biographies

Dr Maryam Bandukda is a Research Fellow at the Global Disability Innovation Hub, University College London. She completed her PhD studies in Human-Computer Interaction for Assistive Technologies at the Computer Science Department, University College London. She currently leads the research on the impact of smartphones and digital technologies for people with disabilities in the global south. Maryam is also an EPSRC ICT Champion and leads the department's efforts on community outreach and engagement for promoting the participation of people with disabilities in ICT research and design of assistive technology. Catherine (Cathy) Holloway is a Professor of Interaction Design at UCL’s Interactions Centre (UCLIC) & Co-founder and Director of the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub). Cathy has co-led GDI Hub to be the first WHO Collaborating Centre on Assistive Technology, with a project portfolio of over £60m across 41 countries, reaching over 28 million people globally. Cathy has published over 190 papers in assistive technology and accessibility alongside a recent book, Disability Interactions – Creating Inclusive Innovations. Cathy and her team research novel technologies that can make disabled people’s lives better, especially in low-resource settings.
