Author Biographies

Yaël Stroeken is a dedicated researcher in the early stages of her career. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), where she is involved in several projects focusing on cervical cancer in adolescents and young adults. In 2019, she completed her master’s degree in Medicine and began working as a clinician at the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Haaglanden Medical Center (HMC) in The Hague. During this time, she also laid the groundwork for her PhD trajectory and secured €500,000 euro from the Dutch Cancer Society for a nationwide study on the preservation of female fertility in oncologic treatment, which is currently ongoing. Upon completion of her PhD, she plans to start her residency at Haga hospital in The Hague and LUMC.
Florine Hendriks is a second year resident in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed her medical degree at Leiden University Medical Center in 2020, and subsequently worked as a clinical doctor in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Haaglanden Medical Center in The Hague. In addition to her clinical work, she has conducted research on ovarian cancer and its impact on quality of life, in collaboration with the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam.
Dr. Jogchum Beltman works as a gynecologist oncologist at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) since 2003. He completed his fellowship oncology at the same institution in 2015. He earned his PhD in 2013 at the VU University in Amsterdam. His area of interest and field of expertise lies in cervical cancer. Especially in determinants of prevention of cervical cancer in low and middle income countries and more recently in fertility-sparing surgery of cervical cancer. Dr. Jogchum Beltman has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers. He is a member of several Dutch and international societies and has received 1,5 million euro in grants for research in the last couple of years.
Dr. Moniek ter Kuile is a senior clinical psychologist and associate professor of psychology at the Department of Gynecology at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). She earned her master's degree in medical psychology from the Psychology Department in 1988 and a PhD in 1995 from the Medical Department of Leiden University. She has extensive research expertise in women's physical and mental health, with a focus on women's gynecological complaints and sexual functioning. Recently, she has concentrated on sexual and fertility problems after gynecological and breast cancer. She has authored over 100 English and Dutch papers and more than 35 chapters. With over 30 years of experience, she is a highly-trained cognitive behavioral therapist and sexologist. She has worked extensively with female patients experiencing (sexual) pain and gynecological complaints. She is a member of several Dutch and international societies and has received more than 1,5 million euro in research grants in the area of psycho-oncology in the past few years.
