Prof. Shimshon Belkin is a Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Life Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. He is the past chair of the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (Inst. of Life Sciences) and the Department of Environmental Sciences (School of Applied Science), the past director of the Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences and Technological Management teaching programs, and the incumbent of the university’s Chair in Industrial Hygiene. Current research in the Belkin lab is mostly focused on the design and molecular engineering of microbial-based whole-cell sensors for diverse applications and their integration into compatible hardware platforms.
