Dr. Hayley Alderson received her BA (Hons) in Criminology and Psychology from the University of Northampton in 2004, an MSc in Criminology from Teesside University in 2007, and a PhD from Newcastle University in 2016. She is a Senior Research Fellow at NIHR ARC North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Embedded Children and Families Social Care LCRN based within the Population Health Sciences Institute. Her research interests include substance misuse, criminal justice, intimate partner violence and abuse, mental health, and young people.
Prof. Monique Lhussier graduated as an engineer in biological sciences, with a master’s in cellular nutrition and a PhD in sociology. She is a Professor at the Northumbria University. She is also a director of the Centre for Health and Social Equity and a deputy lead for the theme of Health Inequalities and Marginalised Communities of the NIHR North East and North Cumbria Applied Research Collaboration. Her work focuses on understanding processes of engagement for groups that are often deemed ‘hard to reach’ or in situations of social or health precarity.
Prof. Ruth Mc Govern is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health Research at the Population Health Sciences Institute, Newcastle University. She received her BA (Hons) in Social Studies from the University of Newcastle in 1998, a Diploma in Social Work from Northumbria University in 2000, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from Durham University in 2003, an MA in Counselling from Durham University in 2004, and a PhD in Sociology from Newcastle University in 2010. Her research interests include children and families experiencing disadvantage, alcohol and drug use, mental health, public health and social care, behaviour change, and social and psychological interventions.
