Prof. Dr. Pál Sümegi currently works at the Department of Geology, University of Szeged (since January 2000). He served as an Associate Professor at the Department of Mineralogy and Geology, University of Debrecen, Hungary, from August 1986 to December 1999. Prof. Dr. Sümegi conducts research in Paleoclimatology, Paleontology, and Climatology. His main research areas include the archaeology of the Avars, archaeological education, barbarians and Romans in late antiquity and the Early Middle Ages, the Merovingian period, and the Avars. His current project is ‘Evolution, Palaeobiogeography, Palaeoecology and Palaeoclimatology of the Quaternary Mollusca fauna in the Carpathian Basin’.
