Recently, he completed a two-year post-doctorate in “Nutri-genomics” under the ‘Talented Young Scientist’ fellowship of the Ministry of Science and Technology, China. He has more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. He joined the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur, as a Professor in 2022 in the Department of Breeding and Genetics and currently also works as “Dean, Faculty of Animal Production & Technology”. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles in well-known SCI international journals, with a cumulative impact factor of >215. Including two mega projects, he has conducted excellent research works on 1) animal breeding, quantitative genetics and the genome-wide characterization of different gene families in farm animals, 2) the development of indigenous chicken breeds in Pakistan to improve the performance of rural poultry and their genetic conservation, and 3) the molecular nutrition of birds to understand the nutrigenomic effects of nutrients on different physiological networks and the expression of major genes. He was also involved in the National Centre for Livestock Breeding, Genetics and Genomics subcenter UAF for genome-wide association studies for milk production traits in Nili-Ravi buffalo.
Muhammad Uzair Akhtar works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Nutrition, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, Pakistan. His research works focus on transition cow nutrition, feed formulation using different programs, feeding behavior, aflatoxins in feed and milk, and the nutrient requirements of dairy cows. He has several publications in well-reputed journals, including the Journal of Dairy Science. He has also served as a reviewer for various journals including the Italian Journal of Animal Science and Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition. Previously, he has worked as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of the Punjab, Lahore, and as a research officer at CUVAS, Bahawalpur. He has also been a part of a Nestlé Pakistan-funded project to estimate aflatoxins in feed and milk and their effects on the performance of dairy cows at commercial Holstein farms. With DVM as a basic qualification and a PhD in Animal Nutrition from UVAS, Lahore, he has, overall, more than five years of teaching and research experience in dairy nutrition.
