Author Biographies

Prof. Giuseppe Antonio Malfa is a Professor of Plant and Animal Biology and Pharmaceutical Biology in the Department of Drug and Health Sciences at the University of Catania, Italy. He completed his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Catania and the University of Rome La Sapienza. He co-leads a research team on natural compounds at the Laboratory of Biochemistry, University of Catania. His research interests include plant secondary metabolites, polyphenols, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and phytoalexins, focusing on chronic inflammation, metabolic syndromes, cancer chemoprevention and therapy, nutraceuticals, and supplements.

Dr. Francesco Pappalardo is a Full Professor of Informatics and the Deputy Director of the Department of Drug and Health Sciences at the University of Catania, Italy. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Catania. He has published over 160 articles in international journals and conferences. His research focuses on the application of computational models in systems biomedicine. He is one of the pioneers of in silico trials and is currently involved in addressing regulatory aspects with European authorities.
Prof. Claudia Di Giacomo is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Drug and Health Sciences at the University of Catania, Italy. She completed her Ph.D. in Biology and Medical Biochemistry at the University of Catania. Her teaching areas include General Biochemistry and Human and Applied Systematic Biochemistry. Her research interests focus on oxygen toxicity, oxidative stress, and therapeutic strategies in various biological systems and disease models.
Prof. Dr. Rosaria Acquaviva is a Full Professor of Plant Biology, Animal Biology, and Pharmaceutical Botany in the Department of Drug and Health Sciences at the University of Catania, Italy. She completed her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Catania in 1998. Currently, her research focuses on the markers of oxidative stress, mechanisms of action of natural and synthetic antioxidants, and the development of new therapeutic strategies. Her research interests include oxidative stress, plant extracts, natural compounds, secondary metabolites, and the biological activity of extracts.
