Dr. Amin Talei received his PhD in Hydrological Modelling from the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, where he worked as a researcher after completing his studies. He also holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, specialising in hydraulic
structures. His research is predominantly on two areas: (1) hydrological modelling, with an interest in using artificial intelligence techniques and big data analytics, and (2) sustainable urban water management, focusing on nature-based solutions for sustainable drainage systems. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering (MIEAust-CPEng) registered by Engineers Australia and a member of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). He joined Monash University (Malaysia Campus) in 2013 and worked there as an academic for a decade before leaving it as an Adjunct Associate Professor in early 2023. He currently works as a flood modeller in the engineering sector in Australia.
Prof. Dr. Valentijn R.N. Pauwels received his M.Sc.Eng. degree in Agricultural Sciences from Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium, in 1994, and his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA, in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow funded by the Foundation for Scientific Research of the Flemish Community. He undertook this position at Ghent University, where he became a Lecturer in 2005 and a Senior Lecturer in 2010. In 2012, he joined Monash University, Clayton, VIC, Australia, where he became an Associate Professor in 2015 and a Professor in 2024. From 2014 to 2017 he was a Future Fellow funded by the Australian Research Council. His major research interests are hydrologic model development and optimisation, and water management, with a focus on floods.
