Dr. Sara Rodríguez-Martín is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the area of Pharmacology at the University of Alcalá and a researcher belonging to the group of Pharmacoepidemiology. In 2015, she completed a Master’s in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance at the UAH and started as a Research Fellow at the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Hospital Universitario Príncipe de Asturias to develop tasks supporting the epidemiological analysis of data from the PIELenRed project and support for the evaluation of clinical research projects at HUPA. From 2016 to 2021, she worked as a contract researcher on several research projects. Her research experience is focused on the field of pharmacoepidemiology in research projects carried out with large databases with real-world data, specifically in the line of research on atherothrombotic events associated with the use of drugs.
Dr. Gema Ruiz-Hurtado is the Head of the Cardiorenal Translational Laboratory, the Institute of Research i+12, the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre. She graduated in Biochemistry in 2002 from the Chemistry Faculty at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). She obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Human Therapeutics in 2008 at the Medicine Faculty at UCM. From 2008 to 2011, she completed a postdoctoral stay at the Institute de la Santé et de la Recherche Medicale (INSERM) in Montpellier and Paris. She is a member of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), the Spanish Society of
Hypertension (SEH), the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) and the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN), the National Association of Hospital Researchers (ANIH), and the Biophysical Society. During the last 10 years, her research activities have been focused on the study of new molecular targets and biomarkers involved in hypertension, cardiovascular and renal disease. She has also focused on the study of the functional alterations at the cellular and intracellular levels associated with the presence of cardiac disease. She has strong experience in the difficult analysis of calcium handling at the intracardiomyocyte level using confocal microscopy.
Dr. Luis M. Ruilope is a Professor at the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Department of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and an expert researcher at Universidad Europea de Madrid. At the same time, he is the Head of the Translational Research Group in Hypertension and Cardiorenal Disease at the Institute of Research i+12 at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre in Madrid, Spain. He is an international fellow of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research and the Council of the Kidney in Cardiovascular Diseases of the American Heart Association. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) and president of the Spanish Hypertension Society and the Hypertension Spanish League. He is also a member of the editorial board of several journals, including Journal of Hypertension, Blood Pressure, Medicina Clínica, Hypertension, Journal of Human Hypertension, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Nephrology and Dialysis & Transplantation.
