Dr. Michael Weichhaus is an Associate Professor of Biology at the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Chaminade University of Honolulu, Honolulu, HI, USA. He obtained his B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and M.Sc. in Medical Molecular Genetics from the University of Aberdeen and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Robert Gordon University. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and joined the faculty at Chaminade University of Honolulu thereafter. His role as teacher-scholar is focused on Cellular and Molecular Biology, specifically, teaching courses related to human physiology, metabolism, cancer biology, and cell biology. His current research is focused on the energy metabolism of cancer cells with specific emphasis on how and if breast cancer cells utilize ketone bodies during periods of glucose deprivation as experienced by patients on ketogenic diets.
