John K. Lodge is a Professor of Nutrition and Health and the Director of the Centre for Health and Life Sciences Research at the School of Human Sciences, London Metropolitan University, UK. He received his PhD in Biological Chemistry from Birkbeck College, University of London, in 1993. Then, he completed Postdoctoral positions at the University of California at Berkeley, the Linus Pauling Institute (Oregon State University), and the German Institute of Human Nutrition. He has held academic positions at Northumbria University and the University of Surrey. He is a human nutritionist with an interest in fruit and their constituents (antioxidants, bioactives, sucrose), and effects on metabolism with reference to cardiovascular disease processes, using a multi-disciplinary integrative approach.
Shafiq Uddin Ahmed is a Principal Lecturer and Admissions lead for the School of Medicine, University of Sunderland, UK,. He graduated from Queen Mary (University of London) in 2001 with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and completed his PhD in 2005 from the Northern Institute for Cancer Research, University of Newcastle. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of York and Glasgow University/CRUK Beaton Institute. His primary research interest is on glioblastomas; a type of incurable brain tumour. His laboratory aims to identify signalling pathways that can be targeted for the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of glioblastomas.
