Since graduating from the Diplôme d'Études Spécialisées en Médecine Bucco-Dentaire, Dr. Catherine Petit's career has followed a hospital-university approach. During this extensive third cycle of her odontological studies, she elected to concentrate her practice on periodontology, thereby enhancing her clinical and scientific abilities by attaining the Diplôme Universitaire de parodontologie clinique and the Certificat d'Études Spécifiques en parodontologie. During this period, she participated in numerous clinical research protocols conducted within the Strasbourg periodontology department. This afforded her the opportunity to assess a range of innovative periodontal tools and therapeutics with the aim of enhancing patient care. Her research activity within INSERM Unit 1260, Regenerative Nanomedicine, is centered upon the design of pharmacological strategies and the development of biomaterials that facilitate the nano-controlled delivery of active anti-inflammatory or pro-resolving molecules to sites affected by periodontal destruction. This work has already resulted in several publications and has the long-term prospect of developing gels that can be offered for clinical application. Additionally, Dr. Catherine Petit is engaged in the field of medical pedagogy as it pertains to periodontology. Notably, she has been instrumental in integrating novel forms of simulation-based learning into the curriculum for graduate students in dentistry.
