Joanna BrzeszczyĆska is an Associate Professor at the Department of General Biochemistry, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz. She received her Ph.D. from the Faculty of
Biology and Earth Sciences of the University of Lodz. She also gained scientific experience in Great Britain working in institutions such as the University of Edinburgh, University of the West of Scotland, Roslin Institute, and Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Her scientific specialization is research on stem cells and their use in regenerating human tissues and organs. Her scientific interests have been extended to include research on the differentiation and functioning of cells generated using induced pluripotent cell technology (iPS cells) in 2D and 3D systems. Her scientific and research works are part of European projects in the field of regenerative and translational medicine including StemBANCC European IMI Collaborative Project, EndoVESPA, and BREATH Border Regions Airways Training Hub. She has been awarded five individual Fellowships through competitive procedures by the British Council, the Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation, The Daphne Jackson Trust/The Leverhulme Trust, the Dr Hadwen Trust and StemBANCC (IMI, EFPIA). Her research results have so far attracted the interest of several international pharmaceutical companies, which has resulted in collaboration with companies such as Novartis, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Bioreactor Group/BCRT.
