Prof. Changyan Tian is a member of the Communist Party of China, a researcher, and a supervisor for doctoral and master's students at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1982, he graduated from the soil and agro-chemistry department of Northwest Agricultural University, majoring in soil and agro-chemistry. In 1988, he obtained a degree of Master of Agricultural Science from Xinjiang Institute of Biology, Pedology, and Desert under the CAS. In 1994, he was appointed associate research fellow and in 1999 promoted to research fellow, mainly engaged in research on oasis agro-ecosystems in arid zones, biodiversity in arid zones, and utilization of bio-resources. He is also a professor of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a professor of the Zihuan College of Xinjiang Agricultural University, a standing director of the Xinjiang Soil and Fertilizer Society, a standing director of the Xinjiang Geographical Society, a director of the Chinese Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Society, a member of the Saline Alkali Soil Professional Committee of the Chinese Soil Society, a member of the Youth Working Committee of the Ninth Council of the Chinese Soil Society, and an editorial member of the journal "Soil Bulletin". The first batch was selected for the "Light of the West" Youth Talent Training Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
