Dr. ÁngelLanas graduated in medicine from the University of Zaragoza in 1979. He
completed his postgraduate training at Zaragoza’s University Hospital and was
awarded his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Zaragoza in 1984.
He took a position as a research fellow at the same university before working
as a gastroenterologist staff member at various Spanish hospitals between 1986
and 1999. From 1989 to 1991, he also joined the Department of Gastroenterology
at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a visiting professor. He returned
to Spain in 1992 as an associate professor of medicine at the University of
Zaragoza. In 2012, he became Chairman of the Digestive Diseases Service at the
University Hospital “Lozano Blesa” and, also in 2012, Full Professor of Medicine
at the University of Zaragoza. He is affiliated with multiple national and
international gastroenterological associations and is or has been a member of
different executive committees for various international studies. Since 2000,
he has published more than 400 research and review publications in the field of
gastroenterology. His research interests include acid-, H. pylori-, and
NSAID-related gastrointestinal diseases, and the chemoprevention of GI cancer.
