Esteban Ortiz-Prado received his medical doctor degree in Ecuador and received special training in mountain medicine and high-altitude physiology from the University of Calgary, Canada, and a diploma in underwater physiology and hyperbaric medicine at Columbia, USA. After returning to Ecuador, he was offered the chance to become a senior scientific advisor for the Minister of Higher Education and Science in Ecuador and later as a research manager of ENFARMA, the only public pharmaceutical company in Ecuador. In 2015, he was offered a position as a principal professor at the Universidad de la Americas (UDLA) in Quito, Ecuador. He founded the “One Health Global Research Group” at UDLA, and due to his investigational role he endeavored a new academic challenge as a PhD student at the Universidad de Barcelona in Spain. After completing his PhD investigation, he obtained a fully paid scholarship from the UK government to study public and global health at the University of Southampton. He has completed his Master’s in Public Health at the University of Southampton, England, and finished his PhD in high physiology at the Universidad de Barcelona in Spain. He has a great interest in public and global health and high-altitude exposure as a risk factor for disease appearance. His work is mostly focused on analyzing the burden of diseases. Currently, he is a principal investigator at UDLA, Quito, Ecuador.
