Dr. Catarina Ramos Pereira holds a Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from the Abel Salazar Institute for Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) at the University of Porto, Portugal, conferred in 2019. She is a multifaceted professional with a diverse background and extensive experience in TCM and physiotherapy. Since June 2022, Dr. Pereira has been the owner and manager of Centro Medular, where she practices as a Traditional Chinese Doctor and physiotherapist, specializing in neurological issues and rehabilitation, with a particular focus on Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, she has been serving as the coordinator at Academia de Saúde C+ since January 2024. Dr. Pereira is actively involved in research, contributing to the understanding and advancement of treatment methods for neurological disorders through the integration of TCM and modern rehabilitation techniques. Her research interests include exploring innovative approaches to Parkinson’s disease management and broader neurological rehabilitation strategies. She is a member of th Center of Biosciences in Integrative Health (CBSIn) in Porto, Portugal.
Prof. Dr. Henry Johannes Greten has been advocating the rational integration of Chinese medicine in Europe for decades, and is considered the leading expert on acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He is President of the German-Chinese Research Association, the German Society for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Director of the Heidelberg School of Chinese Medicine.
Rubim Santos is affiliated with the Polytechnic of Porto, specifically at ESS, Porto, Portugal. He is Director of the Rehabilitation Research Center (CIR) at ESS, P.PORTO Health School. She has a PhD in Medical Sciences ICBAS-UP, a specialization in Traditional Chinese Medicine ICBAS -UP and a Postgraduate qualification in Pain Medicine at Hospital S. João - UP.
Bruno Ramos is now working with Professor Jorge Machado at ICBAS (Abel Salazar Institute for Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto, Portugal). He is responsible for BIOPAC classes and the teaching of how it works, regarding time reaction, electromyography, and the study of reflex amplitude and nerve velocity conduction.
Maria João Santos is the Director of the Acupuncture Degree in Instituto Piaget at Gaia (Portugal). She has already many articles published in the context of Master's Degrees at ICBAS and she is developing her private Clinic at CENTRO MEDULAR and Instituto de Neurociência, both in Porto. Her main focus is the study of emotions.
Jorge Machado is part of ICBAS, University of Porto, and CBSIn, Porto, Portugal.He has already almost 200 articles published and his scope of study is health sciences and rehabilitation medicine in integrative medicine. He is studying CIIMAR Fish Biology and Fisheries, in Biology, Aquaculture and Seafood Quality, too.
Maria Begoña Criado has gained experience as coordinator of the CTeSP course in Gerontology at CESPU, namely in direct contact with institutions aimed at the elderly population or linked to local government, and has provided an understanding of the reality of aging in the North of Portugal and the difficulties experienced by the elderly population in accessing health services. The study visits and the coordination of internships in a real work environment for the course's students, have also contributed to this experience, which justifies their inclusion in the research team. Added to this are more than 30 years of experience of participation in funded projects and master's and doctoral orientations. In the last 5 years, she has been researcher responsible for the project "Loneliness in the elderly and its influence in health" and co-author of 9 publications in indexed international journals, several of them in the area of public health.
