Eva Cernadas was born in A Coruña, Spain, in 1969, and received her BS and PhD degrees in physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), in 1992 and 1997, respectively. She is a lecturer of computer science and a researcher at CiTIUS (Singular Research Center of Intelligent Technology of USC). She researches computer vision and machine learning, designing or applying methods to the fields of medicine, food technology, biology, agriculture, and the management of marine resources. She has developed software in the biomedical field: CystAnalyser for the automatic quantification of cysts in cystic disorders from histological images; PDApp to estimate the Third Molar Eruption Potential from panoramic radiological images; BreastAnalyser to quantify human breast cancer immunohistochemical images; and OralImmunoAnalyser for the immunohistochemical assessment of oral leukoplakia from immunohistochemical images. She also contributed to the development of STERapp software to estimate fish fecundity from histological images of their gonads. She was a pioneer in using computer vision to assess the quality of meat products, especially dry-cured hams. She was awarded for the introduction of a gender perspective into artificial intelligence teaching in 2021 and promoting gender equality in designing different activities in primary and secondary education promoting female STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) professionals and gender equality.
