Author Biographies

Prof. Dr. Anastasios J. Karabelas holds degrees in Chemical Engineering (Diploma, National Technical University of Athens; MS and Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA). He was employed (1970–1978) as a Senior Research Engineer at the Shell Westhollow Research Center, Houston. Since 1978, as a Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he has contributed to its development. He is a founding member of the Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI) at the Centre for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH) in Thessaloniki, heading the Laboratory of Natural Resources and Renewable Energies since 1985. His research interests include multiphase flow processes, colloidal systems, and membrane separations, with applications to process equipment design and water treatment (desalination and purification). Prof. Dr. Karabelas has served in various technical and science policy committees in Greece and abroad, including the Board of Governors of the Joint Research Centre of the European Union (1984–1991) representing Greece.
