Elba Llop graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona in 2001. She completed her MIR training at the Puerta de Hierro Clinic. She holds a Ph.D. in Medicine from the University of Barcelona. She has a Master’s in Research in Liver Diseases from the University of Barcelona. She has a master’s degree in Liver Diseases from the Autonomous University of Madrid-University of Alcalá de Henares. She holds a diploma in Statistics in Health Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She has been working as a healthcare professional in the hepatology section of the digestive system service at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital (Majadahonda-Madrid) since 2009. Her area of interest is liver cirrhosis and its complications, and her research is mainly focused on portal hypertension, actively collaborating with the Spanish Portal Hypertension group. She is a member of the AEEH and the EASL. She also collaborates with the Spanish Registry of Hepatic Vascular Diseases (REHEVASC).
Christie Perelló graduated in Medicine from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, Santiago, Dominican Republic, in 2005. She has worked in the area of hepatology, completing a master’s degree in Hepatology endorsed by the Autonomous University of Madrid and the University of Alcalá in 2014. She received her Ph.D. degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2017, receiving the Extarorfinaroo Doctorate Award. She worked as a digestive system specialist at the Cabral y Báez University Hospital in Santiago, Dominican Republic, from 2010 to 2013. She has worked in the hepatology group at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital since 2013, dedicated to the research area of hepatocellular carcinoma, portal hemodynamics, and viral hepatitis.
Carlos Fernandez-Carrillo graduated in Medicine from the University of Alcalá in 2006. In 2007, he joined the Puerta de Hierro Hospital as a resident, where he completed his specialized training in the digestive system. Later, he began his training as a hepatologist and researcher by completing a doctoral stay at the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where he carried out basic, translational, and clinical research in viral hepatitis, without neglecting the healthcare work at said hospital and in the Bleeding Unit of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. After returning to the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in healthcare and clinical research work, leading national projects, he completed a postdoctoral stay in the hepatology laboratory of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the field of alcoholic liver disease. Currently, he is working again at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital, both in healthcare work (hepatology and endoscopies) and at the Puerta de Hierro Health Research Institute (IDIPHISA).
Jose Luis Calleja is head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Service at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital and is a Professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He received his bachelor’s degree in medicine and his Ph.D. from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has participated in the Spanish National Hepatitis Plan since 2015 and is an active member of the Hepatitis C Observatory of the Community of Madrid. He has been involved in the development of the most important registry in hepatitis C treatments (Hepa C), being the director of this registry until 2018. He is a member of the board of directors of the Spanish NASH registry (HEPAMET). He is also part of the National Consensus on Diagnosis and Management of NAFLD. He is president of the Spanish Association for the Study of the Liver (AEEH). He leads one of the most active research groups in hepatology in Spain. He is the current deputy director and member of the board of directors of the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Puerta de Hierro (IDIPHIM) in Madrid. His research interests focus on the digestive system.
