Dr. Asghar Abbasi is an investigator at the Lundquist
Institute for Biomedical Innovation at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and he is
also an assistant professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University
of California, Los Angeles. He graduated from University Hospital Tübingen, Germany, in
2014 with a Ph.D. in Exercise Immunology. Then, he completed postdoctoral
training in Neuroimmunology (the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research
at University Hospital Tübingen, Germany), the Neurobiology of Aging (MIND
institute at UC Irvine), and Respiratory Medicine and Physiology (the Lundquist
Institute for Biomedical Innovation at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center). His
research centers on the immunological mechanisms by which exercise improves
chronic lung diseases such as COPD.
Dr. William Stringer is a pulmonary and critical care specialist in Torrance, California. He is a Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 40 years. He is boarded in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Stringer was Chair of Internal Medicine at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center between the years 2000 and 2015 and the Chief of the Division of Respiratory and Critical Care, Physiology, and Medicine at Harbor-UCLA between 2019 and 2023. He is currently active in medical education, patient care, and clinical trials research at the Lundquist Institute at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, California. His research focus involves physiologic and pharmacologic interventions in a variety of diseases, including COPD, long COVID, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, and heart failure. He has had a career-long interest in cardiopulmonary exercise testing and rehabilitation training.
