Aleš Iglič obtained his Dipl. Eng. degree and Ph.D. degree in physics, his M.Sc. degree in biophysics and his second Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, all from the University of Ljubljana. He is currently a full professor and the head of the Laboratory of Physics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. He was the guest scientist and visiting professor at universities and institutes in Finland, Germany, Czech Republic, and Italy. His research interests are mainly in electrostatics, mechanics, and statistical physics of cell and artificial lipid membrane surfaces and in interactions of nanoparticles with charged nanostructured surfaces in electrolyte solutions. He is also active in the fields of the synthesis, isolation, and characterisation of inorganic and organic nanostructures, applications in surface modification of orthopaedic implants and vascular stents, isolation of extracellular vesicles, and simulations of orthopaedic interventions in human joints. He had invited lectures at more than 30 international scientific conferences and more than 20 invited lectures at universities outside Slovenia. He was supervisor or co-supervisor to around 30 Ph.D. and postdoctoral students. Together with Veronika Kralj, Iglič was, in 2021, awarded the state award of the Republic of Slovenia for significant achievements in physics. In 2023, he was elected as an associate member of Slovenian Academy of Engineering.
