Author Biographies

Rashmi Nagpal is a research affiliate at MIT CSAIL, focusing on Generative AI (LLMs), Fairness, Interpretability, and Unbiased Machine Learning Systems. She earned her Computer Science and Engineering degree from IIIT-Delhi in 2018, and has five years of experience developing and deploying machine learning models. She has interned at IBM, Stanford, the Indian School of Business, and Nagarro. Currently, she works at Patchstack, a tech startup in Estonia. She has spoken at global developer conferences and serves as a Global Leader at Women Who Go, a non-profit where she mentors and coaches women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Ariba Khan is an incoming Master of Engineering (MEng) student at MIT, where she is conducting research on culture alignment with large language models (LLMs) in the AI Alignment Group at the Schwarzman College of Computing. Ariba completed her undergraduate degree at MIT in Computer Science and Cognitive Science in 2024. During her undergraduate studies, she interned with machine learning teams at Meta, Snapchat, Microsoft, and NASA.
Mihir Borkar is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at San Jose State University, where he has demonstrated a strong aptitude for programming languages such as Java and Python. His work experience includes an internship at Google's Computer Science Summer Institute, where he designed websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and implemented machine learning features in various projects. Mihir is currently working on a project with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focusing on leveraging artificial intelligence to improve fairness in lending practices. He has a rich history of leadership, having served as the Student Body President at Fremont High School, where he played a pivotal role in school initiatives and community outreach. Mihir's dedication to service is evident through his volunteer work during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he led a team to produce and distribute over 500 cloth face masks. His academic achievements include being an AP Scholar with Distinction, and receiving the US Presidential Volunteer Gold Service Award. Bilingual in English and French, Mihir also holds the Seal of Biliteracy in French.
Dr. Amar Gupta rejoined MIT in 2015, and leads and conducts research activities at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Earlier, he worked at the MIT Sloan School, and then as a Thomas R. Brown Endowed Professor of Management and Technology, and tenured Professor of Entrepreneurship at University of Arizona. For parts of this period, he also served as Senior Director for Research and Business Development, Professor of Computer Science, Professor of Latin American Studies, Professor of Law, and Professor of Pharmacy. He was selected as The Best Teacher in 2011 by an unprecedented margin, and subsequently by students who took his new course, "Telemedicine and Telehealth for Global Health" at MIT. Between 2012 and 2015, he served as Dean of Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Science. He has served as an advisor to multiple agencies of the United Nations and has published 12 books. He has played a pivotal role in nucleating several technologies that are in broad use today, including AI-based Automated Reading and Processing of Bank Cheques, clipart, PC-based Presentation Graphics, and the first microcomputer-based image database system. His current focus is on Artificial Intelligence, 24-Hour Knowledge Factories, Telemedicine, and Global Health. Dr. Gupta holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, a graduate degree in Management (from MIT), and a doctorate in Computer Science. He is an elected Life Fellow of IEEE.
