Prof. Dr. Janusz Kozinski is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Lakehead University. In 2022, he was awarded the Gold Medal, the highest award for engineers in the province, by the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE). The following year, in May 2023, Kozinski received the Gold Medal Award from Engineers Canada. Prior to joining Lakehead University, he was Founding President of the New Model Institute for Technology & Engineering in the United Kingdom and served as Founding Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering in Toronto. He was also formerly the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Educated in Kraków, Poland at the AGH University of Science and Technology, Kozinski received his postdoctoral training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and spent much of his academic career at McGill University, where he was a Sir William Dawson Scholar and Associate Vice-Principal of Research and International Relations. He is an elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and holds one of the largest NSERC Discovery research grants in Canada in his field. His research includes projects related to the environmental impact of energy technology, greenhouse gas mitigation, fabrication of nanomaterials, public safety in buildings vulnerable to bioagents, and Mars exploration.
Prof. Dr. Kang Kang is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Lakehead University. He received his BS in Environmental Engineering from the Second Artillery Engineering College, Xi’an, China, his MS in Environmental Engineering from the Northwest A&F University, Yangling, China, and his PhD from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. He worked as Assistant Research Fellow (Assistant Professor) at Northwest A&F University (2017–2020) and Postdoctoral Associate at the Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR), Western University, London, ON, Canada (2020–2022). His research focuses heavily on developing economically efficient and environmentally friendly biomass conversion technologies and biomass-based catalytic materials that could be used to promote sustainability.
