Professor Stephen M. Twigg, MBBS(Hons-I), PhD, FRACP, is a clinical academic, physician-scientist translational researcher, a Kellion Professor of Endocrinology, and the Stan Clark Chair in Diabetes at the Sydney Medical School and Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney. He commenced as Head of the Central Clinical School in July 2022. He continues as Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Medical Head of the Greg Brown Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Laboratories at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney. He has published in highly cited journals, with 204 scientific publications plus 37 educational articles. His main expertise is in the role played by prosclerotic growth factors, connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), and TGF-β in diabetes end-organ complications, with a primary focus on liver fibrosis related to diabetes, diabetic cardiomyopathy, diabetic nephropathy and wound healing, and fat cell differentiation. Professor Twigg is a well-known national and international presenter at scientific and educational meetings, with speaker invitations from the IDF, the American Diabetes Association, across Asia (Malaysia, Japan, Philippines), New Zealand, and domestically at the Australasian Diabetes Congress (2018, 2020, 2021), Diabetes Feet Australia (2019, 2021), and the NADC (2018–2021).
