Dorothy A. Rhoades, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Native American Center for Cancer Health Equity at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Stephenson Cancer Center. Dr. Rhoades, a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma, earned her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, and completed her internal medicine training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Since 1997, she has focused on hospital medicine in her clinical practice. Dr. Rhoades also completed the American Indian Health Fellowship at the University of Washington, where she earned a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology. She furthered her training in Native American health disparities research through the Native Investigator Development Program at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Her early research explored chronic disease epidemiology among Native American populations, both rural and urban, as well as the impact of racial misclassification on the study of American Indian health. Currently, Dr. Rhoades engages in implementation science research, focusing on cancer screening, financial hardship, patient navigation, and care coordination for Native American communities and populations. She partners with multiple Tribal Nations and other Indigenous communities and organizations in her research efforts.
