Author Biographies

Huiqian He, a Ph.D. student in engineering at the University of Malaya (2021-2024), specializes in telemedicine design. With a master’s degree from the South China University of Technology and a bachelor’s from the Hunan Institute of Technology, she also lectures at Guangdong Technology College and has taught design courses for 4 years. She has published 20 papers and led 8 research projects. She has guided students to win more than 50 awards in design competitions. The projects she is researching are the Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Project "Research on the Construction of Telemedicine Health Service System for the Elderly from the Perspective of Active Aging (GD23XYS025)"; the Guangdong Higher Education Society Project "Research on the Changes in Digital Teaching and Learning Methods in Higher Education and Their Influencing Factors (23GQN44)"; and the Zhaoqing City Philosophy and Social Science Project "Research on the Influencing Factors and Countermeasures for the High-quality Development of Zhaoqing Red Cultural Tourism (23GJ-171).
Dr. Salwa Hanim Abdul Rashid is an associate professor in mechanical engineering at Universiti Malaya. She earned her Doctorate in Sustainable Manufacturing Management from Cranfield University (2010) and a Master of Science from Loughborough University, UK. She also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Manufacturing Management from Salford University, UK. A chartered engineer, she is a member of the Board of Engineers, Malaysia, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK. Her current research focuses on telemedicine, healthcare, sustainable manufacturing and circular economy strategies, investigating how manufacturing companies can achieve industrial sustainability through design and production processes. Her current research examines factors that drive, inhibit, and enable the implementation of circularity and sustainability in manufacturing. She has secured and led numerous research grants, publishing over 85 academic journals, articles, and conference papers. She has guided 20 PhD and 4 master’s students. Her expertise includes sustainable manufacturing, circular economy, product design, manufacturing strategy, lean production, and human factors. In administrative roles, she has served as an industrial liaison, subject expert, and program coordinator and led the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing. She also contributes nationally, especially in the automotive sector.  She has received several awards in academic fields.
Dr. Raja Ariffin Raja Ghazilla is an academic with rich industry experience, bringing a blend of technical proficiency and practical knowledge to his roles. Based at the University of Malaya in Malaysia, he is a pivotal figure in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  He has served as the Protem Head for the UM Aerospace Innovation Centre and as the Head of the Centre for Sustainable and Smart Manufacturing. His educational background is impressive, including a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Engineering Science, and a Ph.D. in Engineering, all earned at the University of Malaya. He continued his post-doctoral at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, further enriching his expertise. He has extensive industry experience, including consultancies and research projects with companies like PROTON and Sime Darby. His research efforts have yielded over 50 publications in respected journals and international conference proceedings. His research interests span critical areas such as mobile health, health management, design and management for environmental sustainability, human-centered design, and methods and techniques in design. He plays a pivotal role in mentoring the next generation of scholars, successfully supervising over 12 Ph.D. and master's students. Dr. Raja Ariffin's technical expertise has led to his recognition as a chartered engineer and membership at The Institute of Engineering and Technology (UK).
