Prof. Hassan Ziada joined the UNLV School of Dental Medicine in January 2019, where he currently teaches periodontics and implant dentistry. He began his academic career working at the University of Khartoum in Sudan and then moved to the Queen’s University of Belfast, where he obtained his PhD in 1991 at the Department of Restorative Dentistry, School of Clinical Dentistry. He was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery (FFD) from the Faculty of Dentistry, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, in December 1994. He completed the training and obtained the Intercollegiate Fellowship of the Specialty Board in Restorative Dentistry, FDS (Rest Dent), in December 1999. Dr Ziada completed a postgraduate diploma in teaching learning in higher education from the National University of Ireland, University College Cork in Ireland. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the United Kingdom. He has also been endorsed as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, USA. Dr. Ziada worked as a Senior Academic at the School of Dentistry, University College Cork, Ireland, and later at the Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait University, where he also served as Chairman of the Department of General Dental Practice. His research covers many aspects of dentistry and dental education, and he also collaborates on research internationally. He is a reviewer for several journals and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Dentistry.
Dr. Neamant Hassan Abubakr is a professor in Residence of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Dental Medicine, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Nevada. She received her Bachelor of Dental
Medicine and Surgery from Mansoura University, Egypt, in 1988; her Diploma of Surgical Subspecialty, in Vienna, Austria, in 1993; her Master of Conservative Dentistry from Dundee, Scotland, in 1995; and her Ph.D. from Niigata University, Japan, in 2001. Dr. Hassan has been involved in full-time dental education since 1995. She began at the University of Khartoum in Sudan, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become a Chair and Professor of the Department. She also earned the distinction of being the first female full professor of dentistry in Sudan. In 2017, she joined the UNLV School of Dental Medicine as a visiting associate professor. Dr. Hassan’s research focuses on dental materials, oral health research, and clinical research. Her novel research was one of the first to highlight the influence of dietary components on the performance of dental materials in the oral cavity.
