Fumiaki Fujibe holds a Doctor of Science degree from the Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo, with which he graduated in 1983. From 1986 to 2015, he worked at the Meteorological Research Institute, Japan Meteorological Agency. From 2015 to 2023, he worked at the Department of Geography at Tokyo Metropolitan University. He was a board member of the Meteorological Society of Japan (MSJ; 1996–2018), the Japan Association for Wind Engineering (2016–2018), and the Heat Island Institute International (2013–2023). He won the Award of MSJ in 2010 and the Okada Award from the Japan Weather Association in 2011. His research interests are climate change, urban meteorology, and local meteorology.
