Dr. Forkan Ahamed is a Ph.D. Candidate in Toxicology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He completed his Master’s degree in Microbiology at the University of Chittagong in 2009 and his Ph.D. studies in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. His research interests include PCR, Applied Microbiology, Microbial Biotechnology, Microbial Isolation, Liver Immunology, and Toxicology.

Elizabeth Jones is pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmacology at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with her B.S. in biological sciences in 2015 while working on a research fellowship in entomology and botany biological control. After graduating, she moved to Columbia, MO, to work as a research specialist under Dr. Elizabeth King at the University of Missouri. Her research there focused on how resource allocation in drosophila melanogaster affected lifespan, body maintenance, and fecundity depending on diet conditions. She was also able to design side projects related to the correlation between diet and the microbiome. Her current research focuses on cross-organ communication between the liver and intestines, specifically focused on intestinal Shp knockout and how it affects the bile acid pathway under diet-induced NAFLD.

Dr. Yuxia Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics at the University of Kansas Medical Center, USA. She earned her medical degree and Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the Wuhan University School of Medicine, China, and then completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Utah School of Medicine. Her research interests include basic and translational research in metabolic and inflammatory disorders such as obesity, diabetes, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and MASLD-associated liver cancer.
