Alexandre Mebazaa is a Professor of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Hospital Lariboisière, University Paris 7, France. Prof. Mebazaa qualified from the Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France, and subsequently obtained a doctorate on the effect of endothelial cells on the calcium responsiveness of the cardiac myofilament from the Lariboisière School of Medicine, Paris. His research interests include mechanisms of contractile impairment during acute heart failure. He has acted as a member or Chair of several Steering Committees including SURVIVE, a European trial comparing the effects of levosimendan and dobutamine on mortality in severe acute heart failure. He is also heavily involved in several European and global registries on circulatory failure. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 papers and is Lead-Editor of the “Acute Heart Failure” book. He is acting as Vice-Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care in Paris, and the Chair of the Educational Board of Paris 7 Medical School.

Manfred Hecking, MD, PhD is an associate professor for internal medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, he spent two years as an undergraduate at the University of California at San Diego’s Revelle College after visiting the United States as a foreign exchange student. He then went on to study music and medicine in Berlin, auditioned and became a full member of the Munich Philharmonic and of the Vienna Philharmonic (until 2006), before starting to work as a medical doctor. Having completed a summa cum laude doctoral thesis at the Charité, his research career developed under the leadership of Maria Sibilia and Marcus Säemann, who inspired him to obtain a degree in Internal Medicine/Nephrology at the Medical University of Vienna. His clinical research focus is on post-transplant diabetes mellitus and kidney replacement therapy in general, with particular interests in electrolytes and fluid management in hemodialysis patients, and importantly, their gender-specific differences. Several of his publications have received national and international awards within the Nephrological community. Dr. Hecking is also engaged in a partnership with Nephrologists from the University of Michigan, especially Friedrich K. Port. Funding includes peer-reviewed grants by the National Institutes of Health (NIH; in partnership) and the Austrian Science Foundation.
Joachim Beige, MD, is a Nephrologist who specializes in Renal Medicine Disease and Hypertension at Renal Centers, Leipzig, and Finsterwalde, Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, where he is the Medical Director and Chief Physician. Dr. Beige also serves as an Adjunct Professor at The Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Halle, Germany, and is the Principal Investigator in the Division of Nephrology at Klinikum St. Georg Hospital, Leipzig, Germany. Dr. Beige’s research interests are dedicated to nephrology-related diseases and comorbid conditions.
