Dr. Renata Ciccarelli is a senior scientist at the University of Chieti-Pescara. Dr. Ciccarelli received a degree in biology from the University of L’Aquila (Italy) in 1973, a medical degree from the University of Chieti Medical School (Italy) in 1982, a qualification to the medical profession in 1982, and a Master's in “Drug Regulatory Sciences” in 2004. From 1980 to 1999, Dr. Ciccarelli was a university researcher of pharmacology. From 2000 to 2004, Dr. Ciccarelli was Associate Professor of Pharmacology. From 2005 to 2021, Dr. Ciccarelli was Full Professor of Pharmacology. Since 2021, Dr. Ciccarelli has been a senior scientist. In addition, Dr. Ciccarelli was a member of the Ethics Committee of the University of Chieti (1999–2009), a President of the triennial degree course in “Techniques of Biomedical Laboratory” (2012–2017), a member of the Council of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (2012–2017), and a member of the Academic Senate of the G. D’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara (2019–2021). His research interests include glial cell function; activities of adenine and guanine-based purines as signaling molecules in the mechanisms involved in neurotransmission and neuroprotection; mesenchymal stem cell (msc) biological characteristics; glioblastoma multiforme (gbm)-derived stem cell (gsc) properties; and the modulatory receptor activity of adenine-based purines on the osteogenic differentiation of normal human mscs and on the aggressiveness of human gscs.
