Author Biographies

Shengshuai Shan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Biological Science, Augusta University. He received his M.D. degree from Jining Medical University and a Ph.D. in Geriatrics for Cardiovascular Science from the Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He is a member of the National Postdoctoral Association, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and American Heart Association. Shengshuai Shan’s goal is to build an independent academic career devoted to better understanding the mechanisms of metabolic and vascular diseases and ultimately developing effective therapeutic strategies for their treatment and prevention.

Dr. Yutao Liu is a Professor in the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. He earned his MD degree from Beijing Medical University, MS degree from Truman State University, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Tennessee Knoxville—Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He then served as a Postdoctoral Associate at Duke University Medical Center. His research interests include identifying genetic risk factors related to age-related complex human diseases, e.g., primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), keratoconus, and exfoliation glaucoma (XFG).
