Dr. Gustavo F. Gonzales is Professor at the Cayetano Heredia
Peruvian University, Peru. He is President of the National Academy of Medicine, a Professor at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, and a member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the National Academy of Sciences (Peru). A physician and biologist by profession, he is the first Doctor of Science at the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (1985). Also, he holds a
PhD in Medicine (1999) with a post-doctorate at Monash University, in
Melbourne, Australia (1987–1988). He has devoted himself to researching the
endocrine aspects of adaptation to high altitude, particularly the hormonal
mechanisms that regulate erythropoiesis and iron homeostasis. He has received two Doctorate Honoris Causa and more than 70 awards during his career.
