Dr. René E. D. Ferdinands heads many sports biomechanics research programmes at the University of Sydney. In particular, he is a world-leading expert in cricket biomechanics. Dr. Ferdinands was also the first to examine lower lumbar injury risk factors in fast bowlers concerning lumbar load kinetics. Dr. Ferdinands is an ex-first-class cricketer and professional cricket coach. He is currently Editor of the Cricket Coaching Information Service for the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports. Dr. Ferdinands also specialises in golf biomechanics and was the first to develop a full-body three-dimensional kinetics and power flow model of the golfer. He currently supervises Honours and PhD students in biomechanics research projects on cricket (batting, bowling and throwing); equine biomechanics; baseball batting; baseball pitching; golf swing; putting and EEG; pistol shooting; soccer and tennis (serve, forehand and backhand).
