Yanping Luo obtained his MSc degree in 2000 in pesticide science from Huazhong Normal University. He took a job at the College of Plant Protection, South China Tropic Agriculture University. In 2004, he returned to Huazhong Normal University to commence his PhD studies with a focus on the organic synthesis of PPO inhibitors and he received his PhD degree in 2007. Since 2008, he has worked at Hainan University. In 2011–2012, he worked on photoactivated pesticides at East China University of Science and Technology as a visiting scholar. In 2014–2015, he engaged in insecticidal activity research at Rutgers University, USA, as a visiting scholar. At present, he engages in the design and synthesis of photoactivated pesticides and PPO inhibitors, finding many compounds that display excellent biological activities.
