Dr. Raúl Aragonés is a senior lecturer in the microelectronics department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering and his Master in Microelectronic Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, in 2012 and 2004, respectively. He received a degree in Electronic Engineering at the same university in 2001. Since 2001, he has worked as a Microelectronics and Electronic Systems Departmentsassistant professor and researcher in the microelectronics field. He has worked on some national projects related to sensor networks, publishing some papers in this area, as well as international EU projects related to IoT + Harvesting (H2020 EIC Pilot, H2020 Fetproactive, and LIFE). His research interests include wireless sensor networks and energy harvesting. He is the founder and chairman of Alternative Energy Innovations SL (AEInnova), a spin-off of the same university focused on battery-less IoT devices powered by Heat. AEInnova has been awarded 31 international prizes—several from United Nations, the German Energy Agency, and the Volkswagen Think Blue—and six seals of excellence from the European Commission. Additionally, AEInnova is the beneficiary of seven grants related to Energy Harvesting + IoT (five from the European Commission and two from Spanish Industry ministry) and is in the TOP30 EU Scaleups according to EIC.
Prof. C. Ferrer obtained his bachelor’s Science Degree and Diploma in Physical Science in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1989, all from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Bellaterra, Spain. From 1989 to 2007, he was an associate professor, and since 2007, he has been a full professor in the Computer Science Department (until 2003) and in the Microelectronics and Electronics Department (from 2003), both at the same university. From 1989 until 2021, he has been associated with the Microelectronics National Center, IMB-CNM (CSIC), Spain. He was the Microelectronics and Electronics System Department Director from 2008 until 2016 and Director of the Spatial Studies and Research Center (CERES) from 2006 until 2016, both at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He was the Deputy Director at the Catalan Space Studies Institute (IEEC-CERCA), Barcelona, Spain from 2006 until 2016. He has spent more than three decades as the lead researcher of national and international projects, initially in IC design and testing and more recently on design methodologies for the Hw/Sw platforms development, for integrating sensors and embedded systems for industrial, aerospace, veterinary, and IoT in general. He has participated in about 60 national and international projects and contracts. He has authored over 150 research articles in international conferences and reference journals. He is also a co-founder of Alternative Energy Innovations SL (AEInnova).
