Annette Schmidt has been a Professor of Sports Biology at
the Institute of Sports Science, Faculty of Human Sciences, University of the
Federal Armed Forces Munich, Neubiberg, Germany since September 2020. She
studied biology at the University of Cologne. She completed her doctorate in
natural sciences, for which she was awarded a scholarship, in 2003 at the
Institute of Anatomy at the University Hospital of Cologne and immediately afterward
moved to the German Sport University. Her research there focused on the
importance of adult stem cells in sports biology and sports medicine processes,
for which she was awarded the Venia Legendi for “Sports Sciences with special
consideration of stem cell biology and cellular sports medicine” in 2009. In
industry, she gained experience in the field of personalized medicine quality
management, and market access for medical products. In sports science, she now
focuses on the biological and medical foundations of fitness, nutrition, and
health. She is particularly interested in the sport of CrossFit and the
training concepts based on it, which can be tailored to a wide range of
different target groups, from elite units to chronically ill people, for
example.
