Paulo Bartolo is a Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University and the Executive Director of the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing since August 2021.
He previously joined the University of Manchester in February 2014 as Chair Professor on Advanced Manufacturing, where he held several key roles including Head of the Manufacturing Group, Leader of the Innovative Manufacturing Research Theme, and Industry 4.0 Academic Lead. He was also involved in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 and contributed to various strategic groups within the university.
Before Manchester, Paulo Bartolo founded and directed the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria in Portugal, where he also served as Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and held several leadership positions.
He is a Fellow of CIRP (The International Academy of Production Engineering) and has held prominent roles within the organization, including Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the CIRP Scientific Technical Committee on Electro-Physical and Chemical Processes.
Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for numerous international funding agencies and contributed to panels for the European Research Council, EPSRC, and other global research organizations. His contributions have earned him public recognition, including commendations from the Portuguese Government and awards for innovation in Portugal.
