Prof. Burrows is currently the Co-Director of HMRI’s Food and Nutrition Research Program and Director of the TRACE research group. She is recognized as a top-tier clinician and researcher through multiple prestigious awards including Fellow of Dietitians Australia, HMRI Award for
Mid-Career Research Excellence in 2020, and NSW Tall Poppy Award in 2016. Prof. Burrows is currently a Research Fellow at the College of Health, Medicine, and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle. Her intervention work in obesity treatment and prevention has been translated to a diverse range of population groups including indigenous and low-income families. One community translation
study received an award from the World Health Organisation for Excellence in Obesity Prevention (2014). Internationally, she has received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for dietary assessment research in Cambodia and Tanzania. Prof. Burrows was part of the leadership team that undertook the systematic reviews to update the National Health & Medical Research Council dietary guidelines. She contributed to evidence synthesis and guideline development, which informed the writing of these national guidelines. In a similar role, she was part of the team that undertook the reviews for revision of the Dietitians Association of Australia Obesity Management Guidelines for Obesity.
Clare Collins AO is Laureate Professor, Nutrition and Dietetics, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing, University of Newcastle (UON), and Co-Director, Food & Nutrition Research Program, Hunter Medical Research Institute. As an internationally distinguished leader in nutrition and
dietetics, her research performance places her in the top 1% most cited scientists globally. Laureate Professor Collins was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia in 2023 for distinguished service to health research in nutrition and dietetics, scientific organizations, and science communication. In
2024 she was awarded the UON Alumni Medical, its highest honor for outstanding professional excellence. A trailblazer in her field, L/Prof Collins was ranked the highest National Health and Medical Research Council female Investigator Grant in 2022 for her research in Personalised Nutrition and awarded the prestigious, Elizabeth Blackburn Award for Leadership in Clinical Medicine and Science. Her research in precision and personalized nutrition targets nutrition at key life stages and chronic disease conditions, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The personalized eHealth nutrition tools she invented, including the Australian Eating Survey and Healthy Eating Quiz, have been used by hundreds of thousands of people to help improve eating patterns, diet-related health, and wellbeing.
