Sonia Mercedes Polo-Murcia earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Universidad de América and an MS in Economics from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. She is now an Associate Researcher at the Corporación Colombiana de Investigación Agropecuaria (AGROSAVIA). Her work in agricultural economics and technology analysis has resulted in numerous publications, presentations, lectures, and courses, as well as memberships in recognized research groups such as "Ecology and Smart Agriculture for the Sustainability and Competitiveness of Production Systems in the Tropics" and "Technological Innovation in Agroindustrial Processes for Rural Development." Her research interests include the microeconomic analysis of agricultural technologies, spatial modeling of crops and the implementation of agroeconomic optimization processes in areas of regional interest with the inclusion of hydro-economic models, production cost efficiency, value chain studies, and sustainability indicators.
