Prof. Dr. Shi-Hai Deng is a distinguished researcher at the School of Human Settlements and Civil Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University. He graduated from Beijing Jiaotong University with a B.Eng. in 2012. He completed his PhD in 2017 at Beijing Jiaotong University. After graduation, he joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow during 2018-2021. From 2021 onwards, he worked at Xi’an Jiaotong University as a Research Professor under the Young Talent Tier Support Plan, specializing in the field of wastewater treatment and environmental functional materials. In the spirit of the global effort to achieve carbon emission reduction, Dr Deng focuses his research on the R&D of advanced materials and technologies for cost-effective and resource-productive water/wastewater treatment. He has made achievements in the R&D of catalysts for AOPs (e.g., ozonation and Fenton) and materials for advanced biological treatment processes (e.g., MBR, A2O, BAF, and CWs). Prof. Dr. Shi-Hai Deng has published more than 60 academic papers in international journals. He also published three books and filed seven Chinese patents of invention. He is currently serving as associate editor, guest editor, or reviewer for several journals andfunding agencies.
